Room to Roll
In September of 2024, our 15-passenger church van was stolen and vandalized. 2 months later, God blessed us with a new-to-us handicap-accessible church bus! In order to both prevent the theft of our new bus, as well as to help protect it from the elements, we need to build a new bay on our existing garage that is large enough to house the bus. What's the Story?
In September 2024, our church van was stolen out of the parking lot. While the police were able to recover the van, it sustained a fair amount of vandalism. The sides had all been spray painted black, the ignition had been ripped out in order to hot wire it, and two of the benches had been discarded (and never found). Because the van was 32 years old, the church voted to try to find a replacement vehicle rather than invest a lot of money to restore the van.
The search began to locate a vehicle that could replace our church van. Because we use this van every Sunday to pick up individuals for church and were looking to expand our transportation ministry to be able to bring people to Recovery Alive each Friday, we wanted something that could hold about the same number of people but would also be handicap accessible. In November of 2024, our search paid off and we were able to purchase a handicap-accessible 14-passenger bus that had been used as a public transportation bus in Iowa. The blessings of this bus come with one major challenge: our current garage doors are too small for the bus to fit! The most cost-effective solution is to build an additional garage bay onto the current garage, which will cost us $22,740.
